How to section hair? (video tutorial)

Do you want to achieve a professional hairstyle comfortably at home? The secret is proper hair sectioning. Follow these steps to get an even and long-lasting style with greater ease.

Why Section Your Hair?

  • Even results: Working on small sections ensures precise styling, helping you work on all hair without neglecting any strands.
  • More control: It helps prevent tangles, making the process simpler and less confusing.
  • Faster and longer-lasting styling: Reduce working time and improve hold.

How to Section Your Hair: Step-by-Step Guide

1. Preparation

  • After washing your hair, towel dry the lengths and ends to remove excess water.

  • Apply a heat protectant to the lengths and ends to protect hair from heat damage.

  • Detangle your hair with a brush, removing any knots. It's important to work with well-detangled hair to improve the quality of the styling.

  • Start drying your hair from the roots. You'll take care of the lengths and ends later.

2. Back Section and Front Section

Starting from the highest point of your head, divide your hair into 2 sections. Create a horizontal parting to make the first division between the back section and the front section.

3. Subdividing the Back Section

Divide the back part into another 2 sections. Create a vertical parting to make a second division between the right back section and the left back section.

4. Subdividing the Front Section

Divide the front part into 3 sections. Starting from the middle of the eyebrow, create a parting up to the center of the head (repeat on both the right and left). This will give you 3 sections: the central section (of the fringe/bangs), the right side section, and the left side section.

We have thus created our 5 sections, which are the base for our hairstyle:

  • Right back section

  • Left back section

  • Front central section

  • Right side section

  • Left side section

Remember to work on each of the 5 sections by taking hair strands that are not too wide, until the entire section is complete. This way you will be able to work on your entire head effortlessly and achieve surprisingly better results!

Tips: always start styling from the back sections.
